PLOT:The JSA officially announces their reformation, including opening the JSA Museum to the public for the first time. This is interrupted by the sudden arrival of Black Adam in downtown New York. He proceeds to ruthlessly beat on the JSA, as Dr. Fate, Hawkgirl, and Hourman head to ancient Egypt in order try and find a way to defeat him. Dr. Fate uses his own lightning to return Black Adam to his human form, Theo Adam, who the JSA quickly disable. After Green Lantern discovers a tumor in Theo's brain, Cameron Chase shows up to take him into custody for the DEO. The main story is observed from a distance by Director Bones of the DEO, who apparently has plans for the JSA.

PLOT:Jenny Lynn Hayden, twin sister of Obsidian, has a nightmare making her aware there is a problem with Obsidian. She calls her father, Sentinel, to tell him of her feelings. At the same time, all shadows in Milwaukee, former home of Obsidian, have completely disappeared.The JSA goes to the Milwaukee apartment of Jim Rice, the abusive step-father of Obsidian, and search it, finding a shadow sitting in a chair. When Sentinel begins to investigate it, he is sucked into the shadow and the rest of the city goes dark. A mass of shadows attacks the JSA, with Sand, Flash, Hourman, and Hawkgirl being taken over by them. As the remainder of the team is captured by their teammates and Obsidian, Sentinel finds Jim Rice in the Shadowlands, the source of powers for many heroes and villains, including Obsidian. Sentinel also meets Ian Karkull, who died 50 years before and whose energy has enabled the older members stay young for so long. Star-Spangled Kid manages to free Black Canary, who is being overwhelmed by shadows when they are driven off by a bright light, courtesy of Dr. Mid-Nite.

PLOT:After saving Black Canary from Obsidian's shadows at the end of last issue, he quickly does some first aid to keep her on her feet. Obsidian is torturing the JSAers he has control over with their fears, while gloats to Atom Smasher and Star-Spangled Kid. Ian Karkull shows up from the Shadowland with Sentinel and Jim Rice, and Obsidian begins to attack them, when Dr. Mid-Nite and Black Canary show up. They manage to free Star, Atom Smasher, Sentinel, Jim Rice, and Hawkgirl, but then have to flee. Obsidian then destroys Karkull, and starts to spread his shadow all over the globe.

PLOT:With Obsidian blanketing the world with his shadow, Sentinel flies up to take him on head to head. The remaining members of the JSA take on the member that are being controlled by Obsidian, managing to free them from his shadows. Sentinel blasts Obsidian with his flame, burning away his Shadow until he falls to the street. Once there he gets dragged into the Shadowland, trying to grab Sentinel to take with him. Jim Rice jumps in front of the blast, so he and Obsidian disappear together. The issue ends with Wildcat's hot soak getting interrupted by the Injustice Society dropping in.

PLOT:The Injustice Society has broken into the JSA Headquarters while most of the team is in Milwaukee taking on Obsidian. The only member of the team there to take them on is Wildcat, who is still recovering from injuries suffered in their first adventure. By moving fast and hard, Wildcat manages to keep most of the Injustice Society knocked off balance, and is slowly taking them out. While he does that, Johnny Sorrow is breaking into their vault and taking a vial labeled "King of Tears". Johnny Sorrow confronts Wildcat right after everyone else has fallen, and teleports all of them our, warning Wildcat that the game has just begun.

PLOT:The issue starts with Atom Smasher's mother dying in a plane crash caused by Kobra. Director Bones then recruits the JSA to go after Kobra, who has captured Air Wave and is using his powers to control the electromagnetic spectrum. As they finish the briefing, the original Star-Spangled Kid, Sylvester Pemberton, walks in wanting to know why Sand is sitting in his chair. Hourman then realizes that Extant is back, messing with the time stream again, thus causing Star-Spangled Kid to be alive. They call in the reserve members, then split up, part of the team going after Extant on Hourman's Timeship, the rest going to take out Kobra. Sand reaches Air Wave, only to be stopped by Catalyst, then have his head blown off by Kobra on live TV.

PLOT:Dr. Mid-Nite and Mr. Terrific show up right after Kobra kills Sand, revealing that Sand had been hidden by a T-Sphere, and releasing Air Wave. Kobra tries to flee, wihle Air Wave destroys the X-ray satellites that were attacking cities around the world. Atom Smasher catches Kobra and starts to kill him, but is talked out of it by Starman. The team finds out that they were saving DEO assets, and are arguing with Director Bones about it, when Metron crashes Hourman's timeship on the roof of their headquarters and announces that the rest of their team is dead and existence is ending in 12 seconds.

The two teams coordinate their attacks, the team in the amulet replacing those facing Extant, surprising him. Sand's team searches Extant's home, finding his dead partner Dove alive again.

PLOT:The entire JSA, along with Dove and Metron, confront Extant in his universe. The universe resets itself, with the original Star-Spangled Kid fading away again. Extant jumps into a time tunnel to escape, and is pursued by Metron and Atom Smasher, who use the Worlogog to exchange Extant for Terri Rothstein before her plane crashes. Hourman, Starman, Hippolyta, Atom Smasher, and Dr. Fate all leave the JSA.

Count Vertigo is taken down by Black Canary and Dr. Mid-Nite, Flash races Rival to the Speed Force, and Sand beats Geomancer and Killer Wasp in the sewers of New York. Black Adam has taken Wildcat in order to talk to him about something. Sand, Dr. Mid-Nite, and Black Canary combine forces and race to upstate New York, where Louis Sendak lives. They enter the Doorway to the Subtle Realms there, finding Sendak being consumed by something, while Johnny Sorrow watches. Sorrow shows Dr. Mid-Nite his face, and Mid-Nite falls to the ground dead.

PLOT:Sand and Black Canary are confronting Johnny Sorrow, with Dr. Mid-Nite lying dead and Louis Sendak getting injected with the tears of the Spectre. Sand remembers the origin of Johnny Sorrow, when he died during an encounter with the JSA in 1944. Sorrow came back 6 months later, taking Sandy and revealing he had been in the Subtle Realms and the beings there had changed him so he could bring the King of Tears back into reality. Sorrow had killed a group of heroes in Chicago called the Seven Shadows, with only the Scarab escaping.The JSA bursts in, summoned by the Scarab, and starts fighting Sorrow. Sorrow releases the King of Tears, which is too much for most of the JSA, but the Spectre manages to transform it into his tears, which Green Lantern gathers. Back in the present, the King of Tears erupts from Louis Sendak, with only Sand and Black Canary to face him.

PLOT:Black Adam has taken Wildcat to the Rock of Eternity where they hope to contact the Spectre, only to find him waiting for them. Sand is being held by Johnny Sorrow, as the King of Tears heads to New York, with his dimension spreading out to cover the Earth. Mr. Terrific and Star-Spangled Kid get Sentinel to an emergency room, while Black Canary manages to revive Dr. Mid-Nite, finding out that him looking at Sorrow's face was part of a plan by Sand. Flash gets JJ Thunder and the Thunderbolt as the team gathers together to fight the creatures released from the Subtle Realms. On the other side of the continent, Dr. Fate discovers that the woman that gave birth to his current form is actually his wife, Lyta Hall under a spell.The Thunderbolt manages to kill most of the creatures the King of Tears released, but apparently all they did was anger him. The Spectre drops off Wildcat and Black Adam with the rest of the team, and grows to giant size to fight the King of Tears, only to be stripped to a skeleton and falling to the ground.

Wildcat and Dr. Fate fight the still controlled Hawks, managing to defeat them and free Sentinel at the same time. The combined might of the various heroes beats down the Humanite, until Captain Marvel manages to ground him, separating the Thunderbolt from Johnny Thunder's body.

Dawn explains to Dr. Mid-Nite how she came to give birth to Hector Hall and placed in a coma instead of being dead at Extant's hand. Sentinel is thrown into the Shadowlands by Obsidian, with Star-Spangled Kid and Captain Marvel following him in. Flash evacuates Terrific and Jakeem, both wounded in battle, then finds that Dr. Mid-Nite and Dove have been defeated by Eclipso.
